Moss & Associates Begins Construction Of Four Broward Fire-Rescue Facilities — $27 Million Program Will Enhance County’s Emergency Services
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, August 1, 2007
Moss & Associates, one of Florida’s largest and fastest growing construction management companies, has launched construction of four new fire-rescue facilities for the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) and Broward County Commission. The expansion program is designed to increase capacity for fire-rescue teams and equipment, while enhancing emergency response times.“The safety of our residents is our number one priority,” said Broward County Vice Mayor Lois Wexler at a recent groundbreaking ceremony. “These regional fire rescue stations are strategically located so that firefighters and specialized equipment can be quickly deployed in case of a emergency.”
Moss & Associates Executive VP Mike Little said the construction management firm has broken ground on all four new buildings:
- Regional Everglades Fire Rescue Station – a 7,142-square-foot facility with two bays to accommodate an Advanced Life Support Fire Engine and a crew of four. Located at mile marker 35 on Alligator Alley/I-75 in west Broward County, this station will house specialized emergency response equipment, including a rescue airboat and watercraft specially designed to maneuver through the swampy Everglades terrain. It will also enable a rapid response to vehicle accidents, brush fires and other incidents along the heavily traveled corridor and surrounding wilderness area.
- Regional Technical Rescue and Hazardous Materials Team Fire Rescue Station – a 16,727-square-foot Fort Lauderdale facility with four bays to accommodate six vehicles and 17 personnel. The BSO’s Office Regional Technical Rescue Tractor Trailer and Hazardous Materials Tractor Trailer will also be stationed at this location, providing expert assistance in the event of a building collapse, hazardous chemical leak or complex rescue situation.
- Airport/Seaport Fire Rescue Station – a 15,535-square-foot three-bay facility in Dania Beach that will accommodate three vehicles and 10 personnel. It is located near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades for rapid response to aircraft and marine incidents. The station will also serve as a training center for rescue personnel.
- Regional Logistics Warehouse, a 23,097-square-foot facility on the same site at the Airport/Seaport Fire Rescue Station.
The fire-rescue stations, designed by PGAL Architects, will include drive-through bays, sleeping areas, storage spaces, workshops and office areas, landscaping and parking.
