Messiah Lutheran Church Expansion

Location: Mauldin, South Carolina
Client: Messiah Lutheran Church
Architect: Freeman & Major Architects and Architectural Design Center

In response to continued growth, Messiah Lutheran moved forward with a planned expansion program in 2007, selecting Moss and Associates as its “single-source” construction partner. Using the design-build approach allowed Messiah to take occupancy of its new and expanded facilities within less than a year after the project was initiated.

The second and more complex stage of the project called for additions to Messiah Lutheran’s existing sanctuary and administration building, as well as enclosure of the gathering area between the administration and classroom buildings. This project immediately followed the initial phase—an addition to the church’s Family Activity Center on the same site.

Messiah’s new Family Activity Center addition is connected to the church’s gymnasium, and features a stage platform for use by bands and other performance groups—creating an ideal venue for contemporary worship services. The pre-engineered metal building addition also provides the church with much-needed storage space.
