Soho Beach House

Location: Miami, Florida
Client: Ryder Properties
Architect: Allan T. Shulman

Situated along the Atlantic Ocean in the heart of Miami Beach, this modernization and expansion of the historic Sovereign Hotel includes two components; renovation of the historic building and the construction of a new 16-story oceanside tower. When complete in the Fall of 2010, the modernized, members-only, hotel will include 44 luxury hotel rooms and suites, Cecconi’s Italian Restaurant, multiple private dining and bar areas as well as a new pool situated atop the historic structure. Other on site amenities include a trademarked Cowshed Spa, in ground swimming facilities and direct access to the beach.

As construction manager, Moss worked through a change in ownership and reprogramming of the project to convert what was originally a hotel/condo into a pure hotel. This challenging project required close coordination with owner’s representatives, consultants, city building officials and historic district. Extensive investigative demolition and remedial work to the existing structure was required. Proximity to adjacent commercial and residential structures required unique safety and logistical challenges for on site crews who had limited access for staging and laydown.
