Bay County Jail Annex and Courts Renovation
Location: Panama City, Florida
Client: Corrections Corporation of America
Architect: Evans Taylor Foster Childress Architects
This $36.5 million project consisted of a 137,500 SF jail annex and 4,500 SF courthouse expansion. The jail annex features 136 holding cells, 808 inmate beds, a new main entrance, video visitation, medical rooms, booking, intake and food services.
Renovation and new construction was performed within the secured perimeter. This required heavy coordination with subcontractors, vendors and detention staff. Security systems were upgraded throughout the existing facility and joined with systems in the annex. A new video visitation center provided secure interaction between inmates and visitors.
The courthouse expansion, which was located in downtown Panama City, includes a two story wing, new drive through sally port, intake holding cells, elevator and platform lift.
This facility was located in an environmentally sensitive area. Turbidity barriers, silt fences, and other pollution run-off prevention techniques were constructed and maintained throughout the construction process. Heavy site clearing was required and the addition of entrance roadways. Constant collaboration with various agencies was the key to success.
